For Jim Serpico, good pizza starts with great bread, and that is precisely the underlying principle for his pizza truck. After producing Hollywood TV and film hits, including 2001’s Blow with A-listers Penélope Cruz and Johnny Depp, along with the acclaimed series Rescue Me, Serpico felt it was time to return to his roots and hit the road with a family-run, mobile cafe.

Bread, Family, and Italian Heritage

The cafe represents Serpico’s ancestral roots, with Old World craftsmanship and Long Island flavors in every bite. The slices are imbued with the flavors of Serpico’s past, combining his personal memories with the stories of the 1920s “Immigrant Wave.” Bread-making at home during the 2020 pandemic became the first step in bringing those dreams to reality, with every warm, artisanal bite relaying Serpico’s storied Italian ancestry.

Passionate about perfecting his craft, Serpico studied Nancy Silverton’s revered grilled cheese techniques as he developed the basis of his pizza dough recipe. Serpico was also inspired by his father, whom he discusses in his podcast “Bread for the People.”

A Mobile Pizzeria in the Hamptons

The mobile cafe is set to do just that, bringing Neapolitan, New York, Roman, and Chicago-style pizzas, in addition to artisanal bread loaves, to the people in the Hamptons this summer. Serpico is driven to create these connections on the road as he goes, as the mobile cafe features a sizable back window to allow diners to watch their meal being prepared. The truck includes a Fiero Forni brick oven for that authentic wood-fire taste, a butcher block, an additional oven, a salamander for broiling, and a six-burner stovetop for perfecting that slow-simmer pizza sauce.

In the truck, Serpico gets to work whipping up delicious specialties, including a bread bowl stuffed with rigatoni and meatballs, an Angry Neapolitan Pizza with crispy Cup and Char Pepperoni, fresh multi tomatoes, and set off with just a dash of sweetness with a drizzle of Mike’s Hot Honey, and the incomparable Fiery Three-Cheese Melt with Spicy Berry Jam. For anyone looking for savory taste with a bit of heat, the cheddar jalapeno bread, cheddar, Gruyère, fontina cheese, and Spicy Berry Jam is sure to hit the spicy spot.

A Taste of Florence in Every Panini

Hamptons denizens are sure to enjoy the charcuterie boards, fresh salads, and panini selection, which features freshly-baked, high-hydration Schiacciata bread. According to Serpico, the bread is nearly impossible to find outside of Florence, Italy. It is all but certain to create a mouth-watering memory for years to come for anyone who chances upon the mobile cafe.

Serving the Community with Every Slice

Serpico’s Bread Co. will be available for parties throughout the summer, serving up favorites for fundraisers, beach gatherings, and other Hamptons events. The cafe is also a proud partner of LI Pizza Strong, which assists with fundraising efforts for urgent issues affecting the Long Island area, enabling the cafe and Serpico to help do good locally while serving up great slices wherever he goes.

Peace, Purpose, and Pizza on Wheels

The mobile cafe is sure to be central to creating special new memories this summer, while Serpico honors his heritage along with the immigrant story behind bread-making. For the producer turned baker, the move goes beyond making pizza; it’s about “crafting a life filled with peace and purpose.” Surely everyone could benefit from a slice or two.
