On November 14, Almond Restaurant will host a fundraising dinner to support Slow Food East End: a chapter of the global Slow Food movement. This event is an opportunity to not only enjoy an exceptional meal but also support the cause of eating sustainable, locally sourced food.

About The Almond Restaraunt

The Almond Restaraunt, which was co-founded by Jason Weiner, creates seasonally focused and ever-changing menus that are highlighted by personal relationships with growers, fishermen, artisans, as well as winemakers, and features updated takes on classic French/Mediterranean cuisine and ethnic street food.

Jason Weiner, the Executive Chef/Co-Owner of Almond Restaurant, said, “The Almond ethos and that of the Slow Food crew is basically the same. It’s about celebrating ingredients that tell a story. A story about the people that produce those ingredients and about whence those ingredients came.”

About the Slow Food Movement

Slow Food has grown into a worldwide movement involving millions of people across more than 160 countries. The organization works to ensure that everyone has access to food that is not only delicious and nutritious but is produced in ways that support environmental sustainability and social equity in the process.

Slow Food’s primary goals are to defend biological and cultural diversity, as well as to educate, inspire, and mobilize the world while helping people work to preserve and protect the planet.

The Slow Food Evening at Almond Restaurant

The Slow Food evening at Almond Restaurant will start with a cocktail reception and will be followed by a three-course family-style dinner paired with wines from Channing Daughters Winery, all of which will be served in a warm, community-centered atmosphere. A portion of ticket sales will directly benefit Slow Food East End and will help fund its efforts in promoting clean, good, and fair food for all.

The event at Almond Restaurant will showcase East End’s seasonal offerings, with a menu designed by Chef Jason, which highlights locally sourced ingredients. The evening will begin with a cocktail reception and hors d’oeuvres, such as home-spun feta, Harry’s pork pâté with Jill’s green tomato marmalade, and Paul’s deviled eggs.

Guests will also be treated to a three-course dinner served family-style. The first course will feature Crescent Farm duck bratwurst served with balsam kraut, warm GHF papas (potatoes), pumpernickel bread, and mustard. The second course will be prepared by Chef Jason and will feature Pete Haskell’s mahi mahi, smoked, roasted, and glazed with a 24-month corn/almond miso. This will be paired with a ragout of root vegetables, cauliflower/oyster mayo, and hot sauce for added flavor. The dessert will feature Art’s raw milk yogurt with AW whole wheat streusel and will be topped with Jo’s gooseberries, Kerry’s figs, and Jen’s black apples.

Each course will be paired with wines from Channing Daughters Winery—a local vineyard renowned for its organic, biodynamic farming practices. The thoughtfully selected wines will complement the menu, and enhance the dining experience while supporting a winery that shares Slow Food’s philosophy of sustainability.

The evening promises to be a great experience. It will combine incredible food, wine, and community spirit to support a cause that ensures good, clean, and fair food for everyone. By attending this event, you will be contributing to the success of Slow Food East End, as well as its mission to preserve food traditions, protect the environment, and create a sustainable and equitable food system for all.
