Leaping onto screens this February is a flirty film from a Hamptons business owner, Arielle Haller-Silverstone. She used her personal experiences to bring “Love… Reconsidered” to life. This cheeky movie aims to bring all the charm of rom-coms from the 90’s and early 00’s to your home screens on February 6, 2024.
While Haller-Silverstone didn’t cross paths with a wealthy consignment owner as in the film, “Love… Reconsidered” is a reflection of the producer’s journey in establishing a new life in the Hamptons.
Haller-Silverstone found herself in the city jobless during COVID and followed her, now ex, boyfriend to the Hamptons. There she opened her business, Le Closet, in Southampton. The writer chronicles her risky adventure in the film, which was directed by Carol Ray Hartsell and stars Sophie Von Haselberg, Colton Haynes, Luke Gulbranson, Jill Kargman, and more.
The film centers around Von Haselberg’s character, Ruby, an unlucky New Yorker who can’t seem to escape her parents’ home, hold a job, or keep a man. After a chance encounter in Central Park with a wealthy consignment owner who hands Ruby the store keys, Ruby picks up and relocates herself to the Hamptons, and the wild ride of ups and downs begins.
Ruby’s life in the Hamptons starts with a bang. Okay. Not really. Seeking to rekindle a romance with an ex, Ruby finds herself rejected and homeless in the Hamptons when her apartment falls through.
The joy of living in this beautiful town is dulled by accommodations in an old camper owned by John, played by Luke Gulbranson, where Ruby is charged $150 per night. But John isn’t the money hungry man you might think. Growing up in the Hamptons, John brings to “Love… Reconsidered,” and the town, a likable weirdness while always meaning well.
Yet, the story is not just about rejection and a pricey room in a cramped camper. Life in the luxurious playground of the rich and famous is bound to have some mischief, and Eden, played by Julia Coffey, certainly brings excitement to the screen. Struggling to assert herself, Ruby forms a friendship with Eden, a “women who lunch” types who uses Ruby for her own personal gains.
Besides Eden, the Hamptons has a collection of memorable residents, from the teenager seeking a five-finger discount to a man turned on by PTA meetings despite being a porn editor. “Love… Reconsidered” unveils the complications of life and relationships in a humorous and heartfelt way. But the film still keeps Ruby’s story as the focal point, and Von Haselberg’s unique acting helps bring to life Ruby’s situation and gives the audience someone worth rooting for.
Whether February is a celebration of love or raising single-awareness, Haller-Silverstone chose the indie route to avoid studio meddling and create a film meant to make you laugh. Ruby’s peculiar journey is spiced up with a dash of profanity and unsolicited advice on what to do with her “kitty cat downunder.” Haller-Silverston hopes you’re able to crack open a bottle of wine, grab some sweet treats, and enjoy this spirited rom-com.
