The Maidstone Hotel in East Hampton will reopen this coming season under the newly realized visions of John Meadow and his team from LDV Hospitality, who, according to a release, “aim to bring a touch of Italian luxury to the area with its signature culinary excellence.”

The boutique hotel, which is more than 150 years old and has been recognized for its whitewashed shingles and green awnings, will open to the public in June.

According to an article from Long Island Business News, the hotel property was sold to new owners in April 2023. Its previous owners, Jenny and Jonathan Baker, first purchased the hotel in 2008.

Under LDV Hospitality, and in partnership with Irwin Simon and Mayank Dwivedi of ISMD, The Maidstone Hotel will present what a release describes as “an entirely rejuvenated experience, boasting an exquisite food and beverage program.”

Chef Jorge Espinoza, renowned for his tenure at Scarpetta, will evoke “Italian Summer” in the Hamptons Hotel. His dishes are inspired by the delights of Italy. Guests will also be able to enjoy an array of crafted cocktails and wines that are “curated to every moment,” including an aperitivo hour that will be offered every day from 3 to 6 PM in the garden, the new team said.

Irwin Simon, the managing director of ISMD, stated, “As a long-time admirer of the Hamptons’ unique blend of elegance and tranquility,” acquiring The Maidstone Hotel “has been a deeply personal endeavor to me.” He says that his family’s ties to the community run deep and that it will be an honor to play a part in preserving the rich heritage of the hotel in partnership with LDV Hospitality.

John Meadow, CEO of LDV Hospitality, stated that it had “always been a dream of [his] to transition into the hotel space.” He says he’s witnessed the allure and charm of The Maidstone Hotel firsthand and says that The Maidstone Hotel is a beacon to the community.

In partnership with ISMD, LDV Hospitality will bring new memories to the inspiring retreat. This will be especially true under the new leadership of the hotel, as designer Poonam Khanna of Unionworks will lead a cosmetic refresh that will pay homage to the building and its history.

“Refreshed guest room interiors are rooted in a natural palette,” the new team says, which are a reflection of “the timeless beauty of the Hampton.”

Earthy sand tones, warm ambers, and soft peaches will be used to call to mind the hues of the coastline, while updated public spaces, such as guest rooms, in shades of greens and blues will be reflections of the ocean and the sky.

In writing on the experience, Poonam Khana stated, “We want to honor its spirit and soul while adding a more contemporary and luxurious hospitality experience for East Hampton’s most discerning guests.”

The property was constructed just after the Civil War by the Osborne Family and was originally used as a tannery and lodge. Located in East Hampton, the property was procured in 2008 by Jenny Ljungberg, who had reopened the hotel with influences from Scandinavia.
