The University of Pennsylvania men’s golf team achieved a notable finish by securing 11th Place at the esteemed Hamptons Intercollegiate, which wrapped up on October 3. The two-day event, spanning 54 holes, took Place at the famed Maidstone Club and was hosted by Loyola (Md.).

The Quakers began the tournament by posting a score of 296 during Monday’s morning round. They mirrored this performance with a 299 score on Monday afternoon and repeated the same score on Tuesday. Combining these scores, Penn wrapped up the tournament with a score of 30-over-par 894.

The Alabama team emerged as the undisputed champions, setting a new benchmark with their record-setting score of 24-under-par 840. The achievement becomes even more impressive when noting they were one of only five teams to finish the event under par.

Leading Penn’s charge was junior John Richardson. His remarkable performance saw him finish the event at 1-over-par 217 over three rounds. This score placed him in a tie for 16th Place out of a competitive field of 66 golfers. Notably, Richardson’s gameplay on par 5 was exceptional, earning him a tie for fourth place in par 5, scoring at an impressive -8. He also accumulated 13 birdies during the tournament, tying for the tenth spot, and was among the elite group of nine players to achieve an eagle.

Freshman Hayden Adams and junior George Roessler, securing the 54th spot, displayed a tie. Notably, Roessler met par during his second round on his home course. Meanwhile, senior Jimin Jung concluded the event with a score of 20-over-par. As an individual contender, Ben Scott ranked t-47th, marking his last two rounds with back-to-back 74s, culminating in a score of 228.

On the individual front, UCLA’s Luke Powell made waves with his strong performance. Powell set a new personal tournament record with his 17-under-par score of 199, surpassing the previous best. Alabama’s Nick Dunlap closely followed Powell, missing the top spot by a single shot. Two other golfers, Princeton’s William Huang and Ohio State’s Maxwell Moldovan, also surpassed the prior individual mark of 7-under-par with their scores of 205 (-11) and 208 (-8), respectively.

While the Hamptons Intercollegiate was an exhilarating event, the golfing action for Penn is far from over. The team will return to the greens soon to conclude the fall segment of their season. The next challenge is the Georgetown Intercollegiate, slated for October 15-16. This 54-hole event will be hosted at the Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Md.
