The Greater Long Island area has learned that the 2024 Palm Tree Music Festival will not occur at Westhampton’s Francis S. Gabreski Airport.

A source close to GLI has said that the organizers of the popular music festival are attempting to find a last-minute avenue in the Hamptons after the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) denied them permission to hold the event at the active airport.

GLI’s source had previously stated that organizers were looking at areas close to the Hamptons, including the farmland on County Road 111 in Manorville by the Stargazer Sculpture.

In a report from Newsday, Evelyn Matinez, a manager for the FAA’s New York Airport District Office, released a statement that said: “Holding this event elsewhere will secure the safety of the flying public and protect concertgoers who may intentionally or unintentionally enter an active movement area.”

According to 27east.com, the Palm Tree Music Festival had appealed the FAA’s decision but was denied. Sources claim that the FAA’s refusal to allow the Palm Tree Music Festival to be hosted at the airport claimed that it had to do with “timelines of runway closures” due to it being “an active airport.”

The Palm Tree Music Festival—which will also take place in Lake Tahoe, Nevada this July—began hosting its festival at the Gabreski Airport in 2021. This year will mark the fourth year that the festival has taken place.

The lineup for the June 22 event in the Hamptons would include:

  • Headliner Swedish House Mafia and the show’s creator, Kygo.
  • Sofi Tukker, a Florida-based DJ duo consisting of Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern, is known for “Drinkee,” “Best Friend,” and “Purple Hat.”
  • Purple Disco Machine, or German disco and house DJ Tino Piontek, goes by the stage name Purple Disco Machine. Born in East Germany, he was nine years old when the Berlin Wall came down. He won a Grammy 2024 for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical, and has created official remixes of Lady Gaga, Dua Lipa, Lizzo, and Kylie Minogue Songs.
  • Xanda is a 23-year-old recent University of Miami graduate who is quickly rising in the electronic music world. She served as the DJ last summer at the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Runway Show in South Beach and has over 1.2 million followers on TikTok.
  • Will Sass is an up-and-comer in the EDM realm and a native of New York City.

According to a June 7 post on the Palm Tree Festival’s Instagram page, the event has been moved to The Shinnecock Nation in Southampton. This unexpected news caused mixed reactions from fans of the music festival, with comments ranging from those excited that the festival was still taking place in the immediate area to others upset about the event organizers’ lack of haste in posting about the new location. One commenter was upset because they had made accommodations based on the festival’s previously announced airport location.

Tickets for the show are still being offered online. Prices vary, starting from $199 and including fees.
