Peconic Community School is gearing up to host its highly anticipated community event, the Fifth Annual Maker Fair, on Saturday, April 13. This family-friendly event will be held at the school’s new campus in Cutchogue from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It promises attendees a day filled with invention, creativity, and resourcefulness.
The Maker Fair reflects the essence of the Maker Movement. This event offers local “Makers” a platform to showcase their talents and share their passion for crafting, coding, and experimentation. The event is described as part science fair and part county fair. It is already drawing the attention of tech enthusiasts, educators, artists, and curious minds of all ages.
Attendees at the Fifth Annual Maker Fair can expect to experience diverse activities and exhibits, ranging from robotics and Legos to pottery and cardboard building. The event will welcome more than 30 Makers as participants, making it a hub of interactive workshops and demonstrations that cover a broad spectrum of interests, including woodworking, astronomy, farming, and art.
Among the key highlights of the Fifth Annual Maker Fair is the opportunity to create a large-scale whale’s tail armature from locally collected marine debris. UpSculpt and Cindy Pease Roe’s studio team will lead this activity. Additionally, attendees willing to experience this opportunity can look forward to exclusive offerings such as a limited edition Cutchogue treasure map crafted by PCS students in collaboration with Bill Moulton from Greenies Supply Company.
Food vendors like North Fork French Picnic and Goodfood will be at the event to satiate the hunger pangs of those willing to explore this one-of-a-kind event. A pop-up food market on the sidewalks will further add to the lure of the event. Entertainment will be at the Fifth Annual Maker Fair, with performances ranging from puppet shows to interactive music sessions.
One of the unique features of the Maker Fair is the Cardboard Building Station. It is a place where children of all ages can explore their creative talent with unlimited cardboard and masking tape. Students of the Peconic Community School will also showcase their ingenuity at the Cardboard Building Station with a handmade Cardboard Arcade.
Liz Casey Searl, the co-founder and co-director of Peconic Community School, will conduct guided tours for those interested in exploring the campus and classrooms. This shows the school’s commitment to project-based learning and the integration of hands-on activities that shed light on the significance of the Maker Fair in its curriculum.
With more than 300 expected attendees, this year’s Maker Fair promises to be an inspiring and engaging event for the community. Whether you are a seasoned Maker or simply curious to explore the world of creativity and innovation, this community event is a must-visit.
